Words in Action

I have been reading through a study called “Love Expressed” recommended to me by a friend. This study talks about “worship” not just being Christians singing songs to God, but rather everything we do reflecting God’s glory in us. I admit, there are times I do not reflect God’s glory. Everyone sins and is imperfect. True worship is taking the love we have received from Christ and displaying that to others. True worship is love in ACTION. Words are cheap, and although they can spark a fire in us, the action is what fans the flame and makes that spark burn hotter and brighter.

Hebrews 13:15-16

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess His name. And do not forget to DO good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

This passage states that lip service is no good without physical acts of love. These acts of love are the sacrifices we make to help, encourage and support others. Serving the community, church or loved ones by devoting our time, resources, talents, and love can speak to people more than we know. God doesn't feel loved just because we sing him a song that says we love Him. We have to do more than giving God an empty Hallmark card to express our love.

A.W. Tozer stated:

“Christians don't tell lies, they just sing them.”

How many times have we sang about the grace of God in our lives but never extended any ourselves? How are we mirroring the love Jesus showed for us at work, school or home? Worshiping God is not about what you say, but rather what you do. Make it a point to give someone a compliment, smile, or encourage someone this week. Let the love of a God that sacrificed His son for you fill you up and overflow to the people in your path of life.
