Be Still and Hope in the Lord

Be Still and Hope in the Lord

Psalm 37:7-9

“Be still before the Lord

and wait patiently for him;

do not fret when people succeed in their ways,

when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;

do not fret—it leads only to evil.

For those who are evil will be destroyed,

but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.”

In these verses, we are challenged to put aside our envy, anger, and wrath for others and pursue the will of God. The first task we see is to BE STILL. Until we can unplug and look inward to ourselves and upward to God, our vision of His will is distorted. The psalmist recommends we be still, but also WAIT PATIENTLY on Him to reveal his will. God’s timing is often not our timing.

Have you ever known people who deliberately disobey God and still seem to have it all together? God asks that we not pass our judgment or hold anger against them for He will discipline them in due time. It is said in vs 8 and 9 that God will destroy this wickedness, but we should not carry out his wrath ourselves.

His promise in these verses is that those who place their hope in the Lord will inherit the land. God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, but he also wants those desires to match His will for our lives. He may not give us exactly what we want, but certainly what we need. Today as you seek God’s will, be still and place your hope in the Lord!
